house, dog included

My little house on wheels is being delivered on Tuesday! I need to just let that sink in…

I was in Tidaholm at the Treesign workshop Over the weekend, doing a bit of work and tying up little loose ends. It’s a great feeling to be inside my house and see my design come to life. Even better than I’d imagined, and it’ll just get nicer from now on. I’m very much looking forward to taking over construction.

Prior to leaving for Tidaholm I was doing site prep for where the house will stand. Landscapre cloth pegged down, to be covered with wood chips. Holes dug and being filled with gravel and sand, and a paving stone for under the six trailer jacks. Thanks Marek for your help! And Lusi, thank you for being so cute.

Just got these photos from Fabian. The crew has been working on the interior framing and it's nearly done! The exterior paneling and trim is all finished too, ready to get painted when it comes to me. Which is soon, either end of June or beginning of July depending on when the delivery company is available. I've been getting things ready on my end, mostly figuring out where to put the house and doing site prep. Also getting mentally prepared for having some work to do :-D

Builder update

Some photos from Fabian at Treesign:

The process is a bit delayed (pandemic, of course), but it’s coming along and looking sweet. Soon it’s going to be coming home to me (my home coming home to me, ha) so this week I’m getting going on site preparations and setting up towing help with a farmer neighbor who has a big tractor. The house will be delivered on a flat bed semi trailer with a crane, but they can’t drive into our property so I need to tow the house in from the road. Then there’s setting down gravel and sand where the trailer supports will be, and landscape cloth and wood chips for under the house. Luckily for me the rainy spring weather we’ve been having has dried up and so the ground will be firmer for delivery day 🤞 😅

Catching up

Just the photos! OK, a bit of explanating too. I went to Treesign's workshop in Tidaholm last week and got to check out my house in progress, do some in-person planning with Fabian, and plane a bunch of the boards I'll be using as interior wall paneling. Fun times, and also overwhelming. This stage is happening really fast! Before I went I spent some more time with the router on the boards. They were a free score off Blocket, and came from a local museum called Emigranternas Hus (House of Emigrants). Seeing as I'm an emigrant, it seems fitting to use them in my house :-) It takes some time to pull out the screw that are holding them together, but then I also have a bunch of free screws to use again. Win on thriftiness and eco-friendliness.

3D!

Did I mention that I'm really happy I hired a builder?
I'll be heading to Tidaholm, where Treesign is located, next week, to deliver some building materials and check out my build. Looking forward to it :-D

Dreaming of future patios. And, a subfloor!

Today I didn't do any constructing, but I did do some amassing and deconstructing. I picked up my second load of free used deck planks. They needed some nails removed but that I did in the sun with Clara who was giving them away. It was nice chatting with her while we worked. Before that I spent a bit of time relaxing in the sun in the used hammock I picked up for my future patio space. While all that was going on the Treesign crew were putting my subfloor together!

The work begins...

Well, the hands-on work that is. I've been doing a ton of planning work, designing, researching. But it's something else to start doing concrete building work, makes things feel very real. I put together a couple of extremely sturdy workbenches with pallets, and a little workstation inside my big storage shed. And today I started to round off the edges on the boards that will be interior siding with a router. This space was intended to be garden tools storage + walk-in cooler for my veggie growing business, but since those plans went a bit sideways now it has become an awesome place to keep all my building materials. And now it's also housing my workshop :-) Fabian and his crew started their work yesterday, they begin with making all the cuts for the frame. Hopefully I'll get an update with photos soon. For now here's a look at my work space:
