Catching up

Just the photos! OK, a bit of explanating too. I went to Treesign's workshop in Tidaholm last week and got to check out my house in progress, do some in-person planning with Fabian, and plane a bunch of the boards I'll be using as interior wall paneling. Fun times, and also overwhelming. This stage is happening really fast! Before I went I spent some more time with the router on the boards. They were a free score off Blocket, and came from a local museum called Emigranternas Hus (House of Emigrants). Seeing as I'm an emigrant, it seems fitting to use them in my house :-) It takes some time to pull out the screw that are holding them together, but then I also have a bunch of free screws to use again. Win on thriftiness and eco-friendliness.

3D!

Did I mention that I'm really happy I hired a builder?
I'll be heading to Tidaholm, where Treesign is located, next week, to deliver some building materials and check out my build. Looking forward to it :-D

Dreaming of future patios. And, a subfloor!

Today I didn't do any constructing, but I did do some amassing and deconstructing. I picked up my second load of free used deck planks. They needed some nails removed but that I did in the sun with Clara who was giving them away. It was nice chatting with her while we worked. Before that I spent a bit of time relaxing in the sun in the used hammock I picked up for my future patio space. While all that was going on the Treesign crew were putting my subfloor together!

The work begins...

Well, the hands-on work that is. I've been doing a ton of planning work, designing, researching. But it's something else to start doing concrete building work, makes things feel very real. I put together a couple of extremely sturdy workbenches with pallets, and a little workstation inside my big storage shed. And today I started to round off the edges on the boards that will be interior siding with a router. This space was intended to be garden tools storage + walk-in cooler for my veggie growing business, but since those plans went a bit sideways now it has become an awesome place to keep all my building materials. And now it's also housing my workshop :-) Fabian and his crew started their work yesterday, they begin with making all the cuts for the frame. Hopefully I'll get an update with photos soon. For now here's a look at my work space:

Six & a half years later...

Hej!

Tiny house Sasha is back! Six years worth of life has happened, and I'm building again, Woooooop!

August 2020 I got heavily inspired by a certain tiny house in New Zealand, and started designing my own based on that buider's design. I even bought her plans to get a better sense of how she did it, here's her house: http://www.shayestinyhomes.com/hazel-design. I was previously very much inspired by another kiwi's tiny house, Brett. I seem to like the kiwi design sensibility :-)

Since August I have been designing my second tiny house, and in the fall I teamed up with Fabian and the crew from Treesign Tiny Homes of Sweden to do my build. I decided this time around to hire a professional tiny house builder to get the house to lockup, and I am sooooo very pleased with that decision. Fabian has such a huge wealth of knowledge and those guys have built some gorgeous houses, so I'm feeling super confident about the outcome of this building project. Here's their stuff: https://www.treesign.se/

It's been great to have a project to focus on during this pandemic.

Here's some design drawings to get a sense of the house:

The plans have changed some since I drew these, but the jist is the same.

And here's the most recent drawings from Fabian, of the windows and doors placement.

More to come...

For Sale!!

Hello, and thank you for looking at my post!
Due to a big (and nice) change in life direction, my tiny house building project is regretfully cancelled. I'm planning to sell my trailer and collected materials. It's a great starter package, will save on time spent collecting materials and prepping the house foundation. Here are the details:

- the trailer was custom built for my project by The Trailerman in Abbotsford. Very solid steel trailer, 22' long 8'4" wide platform, double drop axle to allow for more height inside the tiny house, rated to 10 000 lbs gross vehicle weight, with welded-on attachment points for house framing. Lights, electric brakes. This is a strong tiny house foundation! Not designed to be used as an RV, but for very occasional moves.
- I attached sheet aluminum flashing to the bottom of the trailer to protect from rodents, insects and road grime, as well as to keep insulation under the floor contained and protected. The flashing is well caulked at the seams with butyl caulking, and screwed to the underside of the trailer at many points.
- I also bolted/screwed 2x5 boards to the trailer cross members as attachment points for the floor decking.
- I have carefully installed floor insulation in the trailer cavity, depth of 5". It is Durafoam at the bottom and Roxul on top of that.
- Trailer with flashing, attachment boards and insulation: $8000

Also for sale from my project:

- Exterior door custom made at Surrey New and Used. Rough measurements 28" x 81", 2x4 framing. Narrow to fit tiny house dimensions. Metal door, primed white, with narrow vertical window on one side. Opens out. $240
- 3 used vinyl windows in good condition:
1- casement, opening sideways roughly 3' long x 3.5' high. $50
2- awning, roughly 2.5' long x 1.5' high. $30 each
- two new vinyl windows, one horizontal one vert, both roughly 16" x 30". $90 each or both for $150
- 8 sheets of 5/8" plywood, bought new, all primed on one side. $200
- three full bags of Roxul insulation for 2x4 construction, 24" o.c. and some leftovers from the floor insulation. $100
- Durafoam insulation panels. Four 3/4" and three 1.5", and a couple of small pieces. $100
- One small metal bar sink, 15"x 15". $20
- Various IBS plumbing pipes and connectors, mainly 2" and 1.5". $100
- Marinco 50' 125V 30A 10 Gauge 3 Conductor Marine Grade Shore Power Cable, for plugging tiny house to power source. No plug. $50
- Laminated hardwood chopping block to be used as kitchen counter, roughly 70"x40"x1.5". $150
- About 140 square feet of floating cork flooring, beautiful but with some white marks that can be rubbed off. $100
- King-size memory foam thick mattress topper, in a protective bag. $20
- Some nice simple small wood cabinet doors, most with hinges. Free with purchase.
- Heavy duty trailer hitch arm, pin and 2 5/16" ball from Canadian Tire. $90
- Enormous tarp, comes with sale unless unwanted. Big enough to cover the house under construction.
- Two milk crates of mixed metal construction connectors. $75
- Mixed bag of construction materials, free to whoever comes to take anything!

I'm currently storing the trailer, leftover insulation and plywood (under cover and well wrapped with tarps) in Richmond. All the other materials are there as well.

Trailer with flashing, attachment boards and insulation is $8000. Other materials at listed prices. If you would like all together (or most, we could work that out), it would be $9000 (25% savings over buying all materials individually).
